The Smithville Rosenwald School

In the Smithville Neighborhood is a former Rosenwald school built for black children to attend in the 1920s when school were segregated. Eventually when the school was no longer needed it became a community center that served as the hub of social life and children’s activities. The building is now privately owned and mostly unused. It is full of memories for the residents who attended school there, as well as attended vibrant community event. It was the social center of the neighborhood.
